Pulse
Pulse is a R&D project in the prototyping phase.
Pulse’s premise is to create a series of physical, kinetic, wearable broaches which sense and mimic a human’s heart rate. Combining elements of traditional craft, contemporary design and innovative engineering, the audience will be invited to literally wear their hearts on their sleeves in a visual, tangible way.
Currently, Luke is developing and prototyping folded tessellation technologies. He is experimenting to find origami-esque geometric folded patterns which, when stimulated, can be manipulated to produce kinetic movement. Luke is looking to create automated actuation of these tessellations with mechanical systems and servos which mimic biological functions such as a users’ heart rate and breathing. The folded tessellations are currently being prototyped out of paper but Luke hopes to experiment with other materials such as plastics, textiles, ceramics and 3D printed structures.
